Eh? This was unexpected.

March 31st 2011, at 5:34 PM

Ugh... why do I feel like only bad things will come from this?

Here's hoping it's an early April Fools joke.

Here's hoping it's an early April Fools joke.

Seems to be too large a scale for that.

This sorta makes me sad, I liked supporting the little guy , over say Steam , now it seems D2D is the little guy.

I figured Impulse was doing better, as their sales have been compose of more quality older games, and their first day releases of big name games.

It's not.

At one point I thing Brad stated Impulse was Stardock's largest source of income last year.

And D2D is owned by IGN.

EDIT:

For those that wonder if this is because Impulse was not doing well, it says in the 2010 Consumer Report that Impulse was the most profitable business unit at Stardock.

Well that's disappointing to say the least.

I didn't know that.

March 31st 2011, at 6:09 PM

IGN also owns Fileplanet.

Hopefully this means there is a chance that Stardock published and developed games will be available on Steam in the future as I unfortunately won't be doing any further business with Impulse.

March 31st 2011, at 6:59 PM

I don't think this is a good thing.

If Impulse was so profitable why Stardock let did this happen?

Quoting Gwenio1, reply 7And D2D is owned by IGN.

I didn't know that.

Which in turn is owned by Fox.

Because Impulse was so profitable.

At some point, you have to decide what type of company you want to run.  A technology company or a digital retailer? When Impulse became our #1 business unit, we knew it was time to find someone to partner with to take it to the next level. Someone who already was a retailer and understood the game industry. Someone who was interested in seeing the PC gaming market greatly expanded. Gamestop turned out to be the ideal partner.

Hopefully this will give Impulse and its component a much needed push to make it stand out to big game publishers that right now only see Steam in the horizon.
